One day I showed up unexpectedly at my flower shop and found an employee outside washing the windows. Nobody asked them to. It wasn't in any job description. They just cared enough about the business to do it.

It was then I realized that the standard we had set, the way we showed up every day, had become contagious.

That business grew into a category-defining brand that I eventually sold. Not because I was in every corner of it, but because I didn't have to be.
